What is Craniosacral Therapy ?
Health is motion. All the bones, organs and muscle in the human body are gently moved and massaged by what is known as the Cranio-Sacral Rhythm; a flow of energy believed to emanate from the cerebrospinal fluid circulating in the spinal cord and around the brain. An Osteopath, William Sutherland, discovered this movement of energy over 100 years ago. This, the body's inherent life force is commonly known as 'the breath of life' or the primary respiration and is expressed in the Cranio-Sacral Rhythm.
Osteopathic physician John E. Upledger later pioneered and developed Craniosacral therapy after years of clinical testing and research at Michigan State University where he served as professor of biomechanics.
During Craniosacral therapy, the body is gently guided through a natural process of release, bringing order, balance, harmony and flow to the central nervous system. Craniosacral therapists release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system, using a gentle healing touch.
Craniosacral therapy complements the body’s natural healing processes and is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease and has been effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain, discomfort and dysfunction.
About K.C.
My journey with Craniosacral Therapy started in 2012 when I visited Stefan Reiter for a Craniosacral Therapy session. Instantly I felt very light; it had a great effect, which I could not understand. After returning for another session one week later, the feeling was the same.
Out of curiosity I wanted to deepen my understanding of how Craniosacral Therapy works, so I embarked on and completed numerous training programs. Like everything else, practice is required to tune-in and deepens the understanding of this practice; here my professional journey initiated.
My clients in Kathmandu and Paris all relayed feelings of relaxation after a session with me. As I started to notice the difference from one body to another, their different receptions, the practice became joyful for me too; now it has become my meditation. I am driven to help and support the wellbeing of others.
Craniosacral Therapy helps the body to relax, align, and function in a proper way.
The main purpose of the therapy is to work with the body’s own intelligence; this is the magic – the body can heal itself – and this is what hooked me! Once I have the channel to access my client, with a gentle touch, my hands feel the Craniosacral Rhythm. With focus and visualisation, the body is reminded to heal. The Craniosacral Rhythm is different to the heartbeat, or the breath.
I personally chose to pursue this approach to healing and wellbeing because it is a non-invasive method; Craniosacral Therapy does not involve medicine, neither is there physical manipulation. Tractions are done, but very subtly; it is done solely with intention. The body aligns and corrects itself through intention.
Every body is different and every circumstance is different. It works best when the body truly allows receiving the therapy. When the body is not ready, there will be resistance and the impact of the therapy would be lessened.
As a practitioner, Craniosacral therapy also helps me to keep aligned, grounded and neutral. There is something in the stillness that Craniosacral therapy brings; everything has to come to stillness – now they call it Bio-Dynamics – it’s a process to help bring the body to stillness and balance.
Just like you love to be listened to and understood when you have something important to say, Craniosacral Therapy is the same; I am here to listen to your body and your body is here to receive support.
